Recent changes to federal tax law have created new opportunities for older Americans to support the causes they love—especially when giving through a traditional IRA. If you’re age 70½ or older, you may now benefit from expanded deductions and other tax advantages when making Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). These updates, along with new senior-specific deductions, can make your generosity go even further.
A QCD is a direct transfer from your traditional IRA to an eligible nonprofit—like Global Gardens—and the gift is never counted as taxable income. That means no tax when you contributed the funds, no tax on their growth, and none when you give them away. For those age 73 and above, QCDs can also satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD), potentially lowering your taxable income while supporting programs you care about.
Global Gardens is ready to help you take full advantage of these giving options. Through our brokerage account, we’re able to receive:
- Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
- Gifts of cash, stock, or real estate
- Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) contributions
- Charitable trusts or gift annuities
- Legacy gifts through wills or estate plans
- Monthly donations—or even gifts of volunteer time
Whether you’re coordinating with a financial adviser or planning on your own, we’re here to help you align your generosity with your goals and create lasting impact for students and families. If you’d like to learn more, please reach out to Ashley Eakin at ashley@global-gardens.org or (918) 814–7355. We’d be honored to support you in exploring your giving options.
