We’re Making a Cookbook!
The Global Gardens Cookbook: Cooking is Connection!
This unique project started with a few of our Garden Educators talking about how impactful it is to have students not only get their hands dirty in the garden but in the kitchen too. And with 15 years of seed-to-plate experiences, we’ve co-created some fantastic kid-friendly recipes with Global Gardeners and community members, so much so that we could create a cookbook full!
We put such an emphasis on cooking together because we really believe that seed-to-plate experiences are critical for creating positive attitudes about healthy food, giving students the confidence to prepare it for themselves, and encouraging students to grow and try new things, both in the garden, and in their lives.
Often, people think that kids just don’t like vegetables. Maybe you have even experienced this. But in Global Gardens, we see the opposite: we’ve found that when our students are involved in the growing, harvesting, and cooking process of vegetables, they are not only willing, but eager to try new vegetables. And more often than not, they actually enjoy them!
Thanks to the support of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, we’ve received a generous grant to give this cookbook project wings! Stay tuned in with us as we prepare and serve up this fun kid-oriented cookbook.
